Josephine May was born May 10, 1847 in a Southern State. It is said that her father was John Barnwell May (who died in Weaverville, California in 1884). Her mother was suppose to die in childbirth and she was raised by her grandparents. We do not know which grandparents, only that when she married Beruca Tuell(a northern soldier), in 1864 they disowned her, and are said to remove her name from the family records. She had 10 children with Bercua. Shiveral, Nancy, Jesse, Alta (died young), Daisy(died young), Lillian, Nolie, Wilma(died young), Ethel and Harry. She passed away December 9, 1920.
