Born in Frederikshavon Hjorring, Denmark he was the ninth child born to Helmar Charles Andersen and Anne Lucie Marie Jensdatter. He left Denmark June 13, 1893 at the age of 19 years old. He was a rope maker. He left for Philadelphia Pennsylvania and arrived in the U.S. from Liverpool March 21, 1893. He sailed on the ship "Ohio". James headed to Gunnison Utah to Lars Peter Larson home, with just $10 in his pocket when he arrived. This was his first trip to the U.S. as he is shown as meeting his wife to be, Karen Christine Christiansen in Fredersshavon Denmark where they were married on January 16, 1900. Karen and James immigrated to America on May 30, 1902, arriving in Astoria Oregon. Karen Christine Anderson was 27 at the time and they brought three children, Paul,Karen and Herman. James was a painter and paper hanger by trade. He died Aug 14, 1915 in Salt Lake City, the same year as their last child was born, Emil P. Andersen. The death certificate states he died of Syphilios of the brain and boneyskill, and meningitis. We know now that the lead that was present in paints caused this disease.
