Mr. Pherigo was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Shelby County to June and Martha (Bruner) Pherigo. On Feb. 26, 1939, he married Virginia (Hey) Pherigo, and she survives.
He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Shelby County. Mr. Pherigo retired from farming in 1988. He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Shelbyville.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pherigo is survived by a son, James R. Pherigo, Shelbyville; a daughter, Sandra Piercy, Shelbyville; a sister, Gertrude Devening, New Castle; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical United Church of Christ; the Rev. Patrick Larracey will officiate. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
