Lifelong County Man, 77, Dies at Marietta

A retired farmer, June E . Pherigo, age 77, died at his Marietta home at 1:30 a.m. Sunday after being in failing health for five years. He had suffered a stroke on Saturday afternoon.
BORN IN Shelby township on Oct. 26, 1873, he was the son of John W. and Esther (Spurlin) Pherigo. On Sept. 21, 1904, he was married to Martha Bruner at Hope. The widow survives with two daughters, Mrs. Carl Devening of New Castle and Mrs. Glen Creek of near Rushville; a son, Robert E. Pherigo, of Shelby township, a brother, Dale Pherigo of Flat Rock, and four grandchildren.
Mr. Pherigo was a life-long resident of Shelby county and retired from his farming profession about 10 years ago. He was a member of the Shelbyville Masonic lodge and the Mt. Gilead Church near Smithland.
FUNERAL services in charge of the Ewing Mortuary will be conducted at the Mt. Gilead Church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jesse McKeny officiating. Burial will be in the Miller cemetery. Friends may call at the ortuary here. (The Shelbyville News, Dec. 31, 1950)
