He was born Sept. 17, 1921 in Cissna Park to John Alt and Lillian Hartman. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; one son, Phil and one great-grandchild, Grace Lynn Alt.
He married Marjorie R. Rinkenberger on Sept. 11, 1949 in Cissna Park. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mark (Kai) Alt, Carmel, Indiana and John Alt, Cissna Park; one daughter, Beth (Bill) Novak, St. Joseph; one sister, Mary Stoller, Bloomington; four grandchildren, Janell (Brad) Shaffer, Philip (Cari) Alt, Seth (Lori) Alt and Michael Alt and 10 great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
