Aldworth Richard "Dick" Brown (1921 - 2011)

Aldworth Richard "Dick" Brown, 90, retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2011. Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

He was known by everyone he met for his humor and sharp wit and for being married to one of the best bakers around. He was always available for a kind word and encouragement to his family and to those with whom he worked. He will be greatly missed.

Dick was born June 16, 1921, in Houston. He was a longtime resident of Fort Worth, moving there in 1968. He served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force and Army. Dick began his service career in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was one of a few people who saw service on both the European and Pacific fronts. He was discharged as a first lieutenant and went to work at Potomac Power and Light in Washington, D.C. only to be recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He continued his service in the Air Force as a communications officer serving in Italy, Turkey, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida, finally retiring in Texas in 1967. He joined General Dynamics, becoming a technical writer in the radar design group, retiring from there in 1987. Dick was always involved in the local community, serving over 50 years in scouting, the local Amateur Radio Relay League, First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Night Shelter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lucille Hunter Brown; and two sons, Aldworth Richard Brown Jr. and John Robert Brown.

Survivors: Sons, William and David; their spouses, Jill and Shelley; and grandchildren, Sarah, Jessie, Harrison, Owen and Gavin.
