Tamara Rae Collins, 50, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2011, following a long and courageous illness. She suffered a brain injury which resulted in her death. Tammy graduated from Salem High School and attended Roanoke College. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Collins; brother, David Collins; niece, Cristin; uncle, Ted Gearhart; and cousin, Alan Brown. Throughout her long illness she kept a positive attitude. She never wavered in her faith and was an example to others. Her happiest moments were when she spent time with her family and friends. She had a great love for the ocean and her animals. She is survived by her mother, Polly Collins, of Salem; stepsisters, Dawn and Jennifer; aunts, Carolyn Darnall, of Salem, and Judy Fisher, of Roanoke; cousin, Robin Casanova (Gus), of Asburn, Va.; cousin and friend, Roger Gillespie (Jacque), of Roanoke; and her special friend, Tammy Robertson. Heartfelt thanks to her nurse, Mona, for her compassionate care during her illness. Her kindness has touched us all. The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Friday, August 12, 2011, at Lotz Salem Chapel with Pastor Debbie Hutton officiating. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
