Mrs. Amanda (Murray) Brown, 74, died Friday, July 9, at 3:29 p.m., in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital, where she had been a patient for several days.
A daughter of James and Lydia (Beal) Murray, she was born in Greenville Township, on June 16, 1869. Her husband, John P. Brown, died in 1916.
Surviving are ten children - Frank J., Johnstown; Morris A., Somerset; Lloyd C., Cumberland, Md.; Clarence W., Norfolk, Va.; William H., Stoystown; Mrs.
Martha Wheeling, Rockwood; Mrs. George W. Winters, Meyersdale; Mrs. Hubert E.
Christner and Mrs. Victor C. Blocher, both of Boynton, and Mrs. Simon Marteeney, Meyersdale. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, Owen Murray, Meyersdale, and a sister, Mrs. Christian Mankameyer, Larimer Twp.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:45 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Hostetler Church of the Brethren, Greenville Township, by Rev. DeWitt L. Miller, pastor of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. Burial in the church cemetery under the direction of W. C. Price & Son, local morticians.
Mrs. Brown's home was along U.S. Highway 219 near the township line a short distance north of Pine Grove. Her husband passed away when most of her children were still quite young. She was both father and mother to them and brought them up in the way they should go. She was a devoted Christian mother and was highly esteemed by her neighbors.
