Professional Football Player. For four seasons (1957 to 1958, 1960 to 1961), he played at the defensive back position in the National and American Football Leagues with the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Texans and Dallas Cowboys. Born James Bedford Harris, He attended Terrell High School (Texas) and played collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma. While with the Sooners coached by Bud Wilkinson, he quarterbacked two National Championship teams (1955 and 1956) and had a monumental record of 25 wins and 0 defeats as a starter during his collegiate career. Selected by the Eagles during the 5th round of the 1957 NFL Draft, he appeared in 49 career NFL and AFL games as a defensive back and totaled 11 interceptions for 192 yards with 1 touchdown. Harris had the distinction of being a member of the Dallas Texans' (later Kansas City Chiefs) roster during their inaugural season in the newly-formed American Football League in 1960. He died from lung cancer.
