LEWIS ALLEN, RESPECTED PIONEER, DEPARTS THIS LIFE - DEATH SUDDEN
News of the death of Lewis Allen came as a shock to relatives and friends in this vicinity Friday. Mr. Allen, highly respected resident of this vicinity for many years, had been making his home for some time past with a daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray C_ntlin and family at Fourteen Mile ranch, this side of Rock Springs. At that place the aged western pioneer was suddenly called hence Friday morning, death resulting from a apoplectic stroke.
Mr. Allen had visited relatives here just a few days before the summons came, and greeted friends in Pinedale apparently in good health and spirits. The morning of his last day of life he had been out in the field at work, returned to the house and was stricken just as he reached the door and in a few minutes the spark of life had fled.

The funeral was held from the Community church at Pinedale Sunday afternoon, Rev. Best conducting the service. The remains were placed at rest in the local cemetery by brothers of the Masonic Lodge of which the deceased had been for many years a faithful and devoted member. Almost the entire membership of the local lodge, with several from the lodges of Jackson and Big Piney, paid their last respects to the departed brother in the beautiful ceremony of the Order at the grave. Many friends from the surrounding country who had long known and held in high esteem the departed gathered to pay their last respects.
Lewis Allen was born December 2, 1857, at Swansea, South Wales. Left an orphan when he was young, he came with an older sister to America in 1867 and made his home for several years with the George Q. Cannon family in Salt Lake City, attending school. He later came to Green River City where he was employed by a cattleman with whom later he formed a partnership and located a ranch on Green river near Lo Dore canyon. Here he entered the stock business for himself and married Helena Parson. To this union ten children were born, of whom seven survive. In 1894 the family moved to Vernal, Utah, and Mr. Allen was at that place engaged in the mercantile business for seven years, the children attending school. In 1901, with the family, he moved to the vicinity of Pinedale where he has since resided. The beloved wife and mother passed away in January, 1913.
