Obituary of R.L. Hassell
Robert Lee Hassell was born Sept. 29, 1861, near Yorkville, Ill. His father died when he was about five years old. After his father's death his mother moved with him to Butler, Missouri. He lived there until he was about sixteen years of age. Then he moved back to Yorkville, where he lived for six years, the most of the time he spent in active railroad life, then went from there to Prophetstown. He remained there until he moved to the vicinity of Deer Grove 22 years ago, where he has made his home ever since, with the exception of five years which he spent in Aurora as clerk in the freight house.
Mr. Hassell was married to Clare Burton in 1892. To this union was born five children, two girls and three boys. The three boys died when they were infants.
He leaves to mourn his death is wife, two daughters, two sisters and his many friends. He joined the German Evangelical church in 1894. He has been a kind and loving husband and father. Always thinking of everyone's pleasure before his own.
His death occurred Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 1912, at his home at Deer Grove, Ill. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and burial made in Walnut cemetery, by the side of his children gone before, Rev. A.W. Otis officiating.
