Major League Baseball Player. He played Major League baseball as a pitcher for ten seasons (1886 to 1894, 1898) with six different teams in 3 different leagues. He started his career in 1886 with the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association, with whom he spent four successful years. His rookie year record was 29 Wins and 34 Losses, which would be astounding in the Modern Era, but was commonplace in the early days of baseball when relief pitching was almost non-existent. His Strikeout totals for that year was a still-Major League record 513, which was considered extremely remarkable even in his contemporary times. He topped off his rookie year by pitching a 6-0 no-hit game against the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (Pirates) on October 6, 1886. He led the League in wins in 1887 with 46, pitched 66 complete games, pitched in 589 innings, and pitched in and won both games of a double header twice. Although in 1889 he again won 29 games, his remarkable four-year stint as a workhorse for the Orioles took its toll on him. When he jumped to the Boston Red Stockings of the Players League the next year, he won only 9 Games and lost 15. He pitched five more years with the Cincinnati Reds of the American Association, and the Washington Senators, Louisville Eclipse and Chicago Cubs of the National League, but won only a total of 11 more games, and finished with a career totals of 141 Wins-133 Losses, 1,170 Strikeouts, 264 Complete Games, and a career 3.47 Earned Run Average. His younger brother Mike Kilroy pitched briefly for the Orioles in 1888 and the Philadelphia Phillies in 1891.
