April 4, 1918
The Angel of Death has entered the home and taken therefrom a devoted and loving mother, Mrs. James Brothers. During the past few weeks of her illness a gloom was cast over the hearts of all who knew her. Despite every medical aid and the countless prayers offered for her recovery she daily grew worse, until at 5:30 on Saturday morning, March 30, she yielded her soul to the God whom she had served so faithfully and well during her life.
The funeral was held at St. Patrick's church at Georgetown at 10:30 Monday morning. The Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated with Rev. P. J. Murphy as celebrant; Rev. John Walsh of Albia as deacon, Rev. W. J. McCormick of Melrose as sub-deacon and Rev. Walter Cullinan of Lovilia as master of ceremonies. A touching sermon was preached by Rev. John Walsh.
Besides the sorrowing husband, seven children survive, Mary, Cecelia, Catherine, William, James, Anna and John. She leaves one brother and two sisters, John Heffron and Mrs. John Flattery and Miss Mary Heffron of Melrose.
The pall bearers were Leo Malloy, James Flattery, Andrew Burke, Michael Heffron, William Heffron and William Knowles. A host of friends accompanied the remains to St. Mary cemetery* where interment took place.
NOTE: Burial was at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Georgetown, IA.
