Israel experienced religion at 19 years old, and became a Minister of the Baptist Church in West Bridgewater. He attended Brown University and graduated in 1811. Ill health prevented him from obtaining regular ministerial duties. He moved to Boston and established a private school and also taught a bit at the Meyhew school. He was an author of educational books.
