Verna E. White (Vernie) was born to William W. & Jennie M. White in Lawrence, McHenry Co., IL on April 13, 1893. She had an older sister, Muriel D. (1892) and younger brother, William E. (1897). In 1910, the family lived in Franklin, Johnson Co., IN.

At 20 years of age, Vernie married Henry Rufus Mathers (April 4, 1914). In 1920, they were residing in Sterling, Crawford Co., IN. From this union were born Emma Ellen, Ruth Marie, Ralph, Rufus Lincoln, Robert Freeman, Russel Thomas, Mary Etta, Calvin Jesse, Charles Eldon, Don C., and Lillian Vernice Mathers.

On July 7th, 1959, Vernie passed away in Paoli, Orange Co., IN.
