Sister M. Celestine Winkler, 102, of the Sisters of St. Francis, died at 5:05 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 1995.

Mary Winler was born March 30, 1893, in New Cleveland, to John and Anna (Schmenk) Winkler.

Surviving was a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Margaret) Selhorst of Leipsic, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were: four sisters, Theresa and Ann Schroder, Sister M. Cleopha Winkler, OSF, and Elizabeth Haselman; and four brothers, John, Oliver, Louis, and Henry Winkler.

Sister Celestine was received into the Order of St. Francis on August 30, 1915, made her First Profession of Vows on January 3, 1917, and her Final Profession of Vows on June 28, 1923.

She served as a teacher, principal, and superior at the following ministries: Carey, Paulding, Lorain, St. Joseph, Payne, Fort Jennings, Edgerton, and New Washington.

She also served as superior at Toledo St. Anthony Orphanage and as receptionist, superior, and administrator at St. Francis Home in Tiffin, retiring in 1972.

For 20 years prior to her death, Sister Celestine was a special praying member at the convent.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 1995, at St. Francis Convent Chapel. Interment was in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.

Visitation was held after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 1995, at St. Francis Convent Chapel, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hannay-Nemeth Mortuary.
