She was baptized on 2 Aug 1807 at Woolavington, the second daughter of John Sargent, Rector of Graffham and later Woolavington. On 11 June 1828 she married Samuel Wilberforce, later Bishop of Oxford and then Bishop of Winchester. They lived at Checkendon, Oxfordshire, after her husband had been ordained and appointed to the curacy. In January 1830 they moved to the Isle of Wight when her husband became rector of Brighstone. She inherited Lavington House in 1836 upon the death of her brother Henry. Samuel and Emily had five children who survived infancy: Emily Charlotte, Herbert William, Reginald Garton, Ernest Roland and Albert Basil Orme. Emily's health was poor and she died within a month of Albert's birth.
