Sgt. Alexander J. Bennett, 24, of Tacoma, Wash. He was assigned to the 7th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion), New Century, Kan. Sgt Bennett was a renowned prankster who trained to fly helicopters after serving in Iraq. Specialist Bennett couldn't wait to deploy again after returning from spending a year in Iraq in 2009. So the reservist moved on his own from the Tacoma, Wash., area to Overland Park, Kan., to join Bravo Company. He wanted to be part of our unit when it deployed. He was a typical young kid and liked to go out and have a good time with the guys. Alex is survived by his mother Kim Robertson, father Lt. Col. Douglas Bennett (Elsa), step-siblings Kathryn Bennett and Austin Bennett, grandparents Don and Doylene Bennett and Theresa Cali, great-grandmom Rachel Macon, uncle Greg Bennett (Joy), aunt Robyn McElligott (Thomas), uncle John Michael Cali, many cousins, his best friend Josh McLean, mentor/platoon leader SGT 1st Class Kirk Kuykendall, many friends and fellow soldiers. Posthumously promoted to Sgt.
