Laura was born in Indiana County in Indiana Pennsylvania. She later moved with her Father to Cleveland Ohio and went to The Juilliard School majoring in Graphic Art and advertising. In the late 1930s and 1940s she became a "Lowes Girl" and model for Twentieth Century Fox studios in their Theater in Cleveland Ohio working as a greeter and usher for both films and live shows with famous studio actors and actresses. Laura was a cousin of Gen. Jimmy Stewart from Indiana County famous for his movie career "A Wonderful Life" and several other roles from 1930s to 1950s Hollywood golden era. Laura appeared in the LOWES MAGAZINE as a Cover Girl and also worked after World War Two with Mildred and Fusmith Advertising as an artist and model working part time on the switchboard. in the 1970s she appeared in a popular ad for the reemerging theater district of Cleveland Ohio where she was photographed crying in the audience of a play designed to inspire attendance at the off Broadway productions.

Laura was the daughter of Celestine Sloan and Ruby Pearl Trout Sloan Gamble who are both buried not far from Laura's resting place. Laura had two children, Clara I Merrick and Daniel W Merrick. Laura as of the publishing of this bio has 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Laura was a descendant of the Mayflower families of America and Revolutionary War Veterans. Laura was a Royal Ancestor of Anna of Kiev Ukraine princess who married King Henry the First of England and France, son of King William 1st.
