He had been ill in the hospital for about four waeks with an abcess on the left lung. Wednesday an operation was performed which proved unsuccessful and death followed quickly.
Mr. Abbott came to Omaha about six years ago from St Louis and was a nephew of Mrs. D. O. Ives of that city. Mr. Abbott's sister married F. Peter Dunne, the noted humorist.
Interment Saturday morning, in Foresrt Lawn cemetery.
Almost from the tlme Mr. Abbott came to Omaha he took a leading part in the athletic life of the city as a member of the Omaha Country club and became one of the bost known golfers in the west.
Although he held no golfing titles at the tlme of hls death, Mr. Abbott was at one time Trans-Mississippi golf champion . and also Nebraska state champion.
Hls most notable performance on the links took place In 1907, when he won the Trana-Mississippi title at Rock Island, defeating such golfing greats as H. G. Legg of Minneapolis and Bun Gulnand of Des Moines.
In 1906 Abbott won the state golf championship of Nebraska, in a strenuous tourney and was for several seasons champion of the Omaha Country club.
