Married on Sept. 7, 1837, to Ann Pruitt, daughter of Bright Pruitt. They had 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. A son, Amos S., died in 1852, and a daughter, Mary M., died in 1882. Three children died after they were grown and married: Alvin H., James M., and Emily S.
