John "Jack" McCarthy, age 86, of Orem, died July 22, 1994, at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 1, 1907, in Midway, Utah, to John Thomas and Agnes Hancock McCarthy. He married Wilma Rebecca Jones, of Clear Creek, Utah on July 13, 1934, in Provo, Utah.Jack grew up in Midway, Western Colorado, and the Uintah Basin areas, in a farming and ranching family. He lived in Clear Creek, Utah, with his wife for 35 years. He worked as a coal miner in Carbon County, Utah for more than 40 years. He was an active member and officer of the United Mine Workers of America. Since his retirement in 1970, he and Wilma have lived in Orem, Utah. Jack loved to hunt, fish, and work on his small farm in Orem.
Jack is survived by his wife, Wilma J. McCarthy, Orem; one sister and one brother, Ruby M. Roberts, Tooele; Willard O. McCarthy, Orem; one daughter and two sons, Marlene M. Murdock, Salt Lake City; Larry R. McCarthy, Salt Lake; John C. (Lorraine R.) McCarthy, Glenwood Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 1994, 11 a.m., at the Orchard 2nd Ward, 810 East 600 North, Orem, Utah. Friends may call at the ward chapel one hour prior to services. Interment: Orem City Cemetery. Services under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo
