"Mrs. Elizabeth Curtis of Mason township who lived at her residence which she has occupied upwards of 45 years on October 5th 1878 in the 98th year of her age. Was in many respects a remarkable woman. She was born Feb 7th, 1781 at Albany, N.Y. and at the age of 19 married Jotham Curtis, a soldier of the Revolution. They removed to Ohio in 1822, and ten years later they came on to Michigan and on the 3rd day of Dec. 1832 they reached Edwardsburg, and in 1833 settled on the Curtis farm in Mason, where her husband died over thirty years ago. She was for many years a very successful mid-wife, and she traveled about on horseback, following the Indian trails, and was an angel of mercy to many a pioneer's household. Her memory was remarkably clear, and she died almost a centenarian, in full possession of her faculties leaving 166 lineal descendants to cherish her precious memory."

From the "Cassopolois Vigilant" dated June 19 1879. Listed under "THE PIONEERS"
