Mrs. James John Was Among The Pioneers
Sarah Elizabeth John was born to William and Martha Bradley on January 7, 1849, in Morgan county, Indiana, and died on March 14, 1936, at her home, 421 North Adams street, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, being 87 years, 2 months and 7 days of age. She moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Appanoose county, Iowa, when she was seven years of age, being the eldest of nine children. She was united in marriage to James John on June 25, 1872, to which union were born four children, all of whom were present at her bedside at the time of her passing. Her husband, who was a Civil war veteran, preceded her in death in 1908. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at an early age and had been a worthy and faithful member ever since. She leaves to mourn her passing, her four children, William H. John of Centerville, Iowa; Geo. E. John, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. Martha J. Wilson, Joliet, Ill.; and Allison B. John, of Elgin, Ill.; four grandchildren, Dewey John and Rolla John of Centerville, and James A. Wilson and Ben H. Wilson Jr., of Joliet; two brothers survive her passing, C. E. Bradley, Champaign, Ill., and W. A. Bradley, Moline, Ill.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, North Side Mothers club, Women’s Christian Temperance Union and for many years an active worker in the Women’s Relief Corps.
Those attending the funeral from a distance, other than the children and their families and the two brother and wives, were W. A. Bradley and daughter Betty, a student at Northwestern university, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Delbert of Sac City, Iowa, Mrs. Geo. E. Rinker of Ota, Iowa, Mrs. J.E. Condra and daughter Louise and son Merrill of Numa, Iowa, also Mrs. Laura Porter of Numa and Susie R. Sidles of Seymour, Iowa,

Funeral services were held at the Cookes funeral chapel with the Rev. P. H. Nightingale in charge. Mrs. G. E. King sang “Nearer, My God to Thee” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.”
Burial was at Forest Home cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: John Schreimer, I. D. Canover, T. L. White, J. B. Jordan, Jack Dugdale and William Evans.
