Son of ROger Peckinpaugh, player & Manager in MLB.John Stidger Peckinpaugh, 80, of Pineland, FL, beloved husband of Barbara (Bub) Peckinpaugh passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Hope Hospice of Cape Coral after living for over 15 years with a rare blood cancer called Waldenstroms.

John was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 2, 1930, youngest son of Roger and Mildred Peckinpaugh. He is the father of John Douglas Peckinpaugh (Eydie) of Parma, OH, Lynn Peckinpaugh Mild (Wilhelm) of Parma; stepfather of Betsie Newton Hiatt (Robert) of Bokeelia, FL and Maggie Newton Spinelli (Justin) of Everett, WA; grandfather of seven adored grandchildren.

John was the youngest of four brothers, preceded in death by Roger Peckinpaugh, Ralph Peckinpaugh and survived by his second oldest brother, Walter (Annabell) of Hamilton, MT; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High and Ohio Wesleyan University, where he received an award for his outstanding alumni contributions. He served in the United States Air Force in Scotland after the Korean War.

John and his former father in law were part of a group of men who founded the United Agencies, Insurance Agency in Cleveland. His specialty was Medical Malpractice insurance which he dearly loved. He was a member of and active with the Cleveland Grays, and Euclid Masonic Lodge.

When he and Barbara moved to Florida he loved to boat and fish and do stained glass windows. He served as Fire Commissioner for Upper Captiva Fire District.

He continued his love of Baseball which he inherited from his father who was a professional baseball player with the New York Yankees and several other teams, and manager of the Cleveland Indians, by being an Umpire for the Pine Island Little League for several years.

John loved his fraternity and served as both President and Secretary Treasure of the Southwest Florida Graduate chapter of Phi Gamma Delta, who honored him with several awards. At the time of his death he was serving as a Fire Commissioner for the Matlacha Pine Island Fire District.
