Robert H. Beadles, 92 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 4:45 PM in his home under the tender care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.

Born June 24, 1919 in Baltimore, MD, Bob was the son of the late Walter C. and Myrtle E. (Watkins) Beadles.

On June 14, 1945, Bob married his beloved wife the former Joyce E. Lajiness at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe. Sadly she preceded him in death on August 23, 1978.

Bob served his country honorably and proudly during WWII as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Bob enlisted on June 9, 1942 and was discharged on December 7, 1945. He served in the Asiatic – Pacific Theater of Operations and was awarded numerous medals.

Bob was employed as a serviceman for Michigan Gas Utilities for 30 years. He retired in 1981.

Bob was a member of the VFW Post 1138. In his younger days Bob was quite athletic and was a member of the Michigan Gas Utilities softball team where he played shortstop and won several league championships. He also played tennis and golf and enjoyed watching sports on television.

Bob is survived by 2 loving children; Robert W. Beadles of Monroe and Anne M. Grout of Novato, CA, 3 cherished grandchildren; Jordan Twitchell and Sarah and John Grout, and 1 sister Bonnie Dixon of Fort Myers, FL. In addition to his beloved wife and parents Bob was preceded in death by his brother David Beadles.

In keeping with Bob's wishes cremation will be held. On Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM the VFW Post 1138 will celebrate and honor Bob's life by conducting military honors at his gravesite in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 1138 or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.

The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe is assisting Bob's family with funeral arrangements.
