John Blaisdell Corliss

U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the Vermont Methodist University in 1871, from the law department of Columbian College Washington, D.C., in 1875 and settled in Detroit, Michigan, that same year. There, he was admitted to the bar, practiced law, was City Attorney of Detroit, (1882-86) and prepared the first complete charter for Detroit which was passed by the legislature in 1884. In 1895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1903. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 78.
