She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Yates. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Laura Z. Shelton, with whom she has lived since the death of her husband, and a sister in-law, Mrs. Anna Yates, of West Des Moines, Ia. Also left behind are six nephews, three nieces and a host of grand nephews and nieces and friends to
mourn her passing.
Lucy and Thomas Shelton were superintendents of the County Home at Lemons, Mo. for over eight years. Then in November, 1913, with her husband moved to West Des Moines, Ia. [and] continued to live until July, 1942, when she and her sister moved to Newton, Iowa where she resided until her death. Many friends and loved ones will miss this splendid woman who made her entire life a service to others with her kind and understanding disposition, always ready to sacrifice for others. Every where she lived she was loved for kindly helpful disposition, and loyalty to her loved ones and friends.
The body was brought to the Comstock Funeral Home, Sunday, where funeral services were held Monday, Oct 8 at 1 o'clock, conducted
by J. D. Noland, Christian minister. The body was laid to rest in the Unionville cemetery by the side of her husband.
