STEPHEN A. CHASE.
Fall River, Mass., June 6.—Stephen A. Chase, treasurer of the Christian Science Church of America, died at his home in this city to-day, after a brief illness. His wife, two sisters and a brother, all residents of this city, survive, him.
Mr. Chase was born in this city on May 10, 1839. For many years he was engaged in business with his uncle, the late Edmund Chase, a prominent manufacturer.
In 1884 Mr. Chase became interested in Christian Science, and the following year he received instruction from Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy. Twenty years ago Mrs. Eddy appointed Mr. Chase one of the Christian Science board of directors. During the same year, 1892, he was made treasurer of the building fund of the First Church of Christ (Scientist), Boston, known as the original "mother church," which was then being constructed. Later he was elected treasurer of the "mother church," a position which he held until his death.
