Mrs. Nancy Henderson Died Wednesday, February 28th, 1917, Aged 97 Years
- - - -

Was Probably the Oldest Resident of the County - - - Widow
of the Late Judge Joseph W. Henderson

The oldest resident of Brookville and probably the oldest resident of the county, passed away yesterday at noon, when Mrs. Nancy Henderson died at her home in Main Street aged 97 years, two months and three days. About six years ago she had a stroke of paralysis and had been in failing health since. While her demise was not unexpected, yet she has lived here so long and had always been so vigorous that it scarcely seems possible that she has been removed.
The deceased was born near Strattonville, Clarion county, December 25, 1819, the daughter of Robert and Sarah McConnell Wilson. She passed her girlhood at that place and on February 17, 1840, she became the wife of Joseph W. Henderson, removing here at the time. For over 77 years she was a resident of this place and needless to say she was known to practically every inhabitant of the town. The husband was one of the most prominent and popular men of the county. During his life he held at different times the offices of sheriff, U.S. marshal, census enumerator, associate judge of the county, county treasurer, prothonotary, register and recorder, clerk of the courts. He died here on February 25, 1896, aged 82.
Eleven children were born to the marriage, nine of whom survive, one passing away in infancy and the other, Robert Leroy, died in 1914, in his 62nd year. The surviving children are, John W., Joseph B., David A., Edward B., Mrs. Anna Templeton, Samuel S., Mrs. R. D. Campbell, Mrs. F. J. Maffett and William W. All reside here except Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Maffett, both of whom live in Clarion.
Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong member of the Brookville Presbyterian church, a conscientious and devoted Christian. For many years it was her practice to read the Bible through once each year. She prided herself in her family and the children were fond of and devoted to their mother. It was an every day sight to see the strong and stalwart sons, now most of them with hairs of gray, stop at the home of their mother and spend a few minutes with her. The practice of the children was frequently remarked about by the people here.
Funeral services will be held at the late home Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. The services will be under the direction of her pastor, Reverend James B. Hill, and interment will be in Brookville cemetery beside the body of the husband and father.
