Veteran School Librarian Dies
ESCONDIDO--Edwin Clair Mirise, 65, who was librarian of the Escondido Union High School District for 21 years before his recent retirement, died Monday in a San Diego hospital.
Born July 3, 1907, in Pittsburgh, PA, he had lived in Escondido for 21 years coming from New Mexico.
He was a member of the California Teachers Association; the California Association of School Librarians; Consuelo Lodge 325, F&AM, Escondido; York Rite Masons of Frederick, MD; Scottish Rite Bodies, 32nd Degree Masons, Santa Fe, NM; Jacque DeMolay Chapter in Frederick, MD, and Masonic Lodges in Portales, NM., Bergenfield, NJ., and Westminster, MD.
Surviving are his wife, Gwendolyn Mirise, of Escondido, and a son, Cmdr. Kerry W. Mirise, US Navy.
A service will be held 10am Thursday at the Alhiser-Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Rev. David H. M. Keithen, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Escondido, and officers of Consuelo Lodge 325, F&AM, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
The family has suggested that those who care to do so, in lieu of flowers, may make contributions in his honor to the American Cancer Society or Masonic charities.
