LIBERTY — Mr. Kenneth Alexander Martin, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at First Baptist Church of Liberty with the Rev. Brian Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 18, 1914 , in Randolph County to the late James Alexander and Fannie Belle Coward Martin .

Mr. Martin was a devoted and dedicated lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Liberty where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a graduate of Liberty School and attended Wake Forest University. Mr. Martin was the former president and sales manager of Liberty Furniture Co. which was founded in 1910 by his father and uncle. He continued in this capacity until his retirement in 1980 and he earned the recognition of his peers when he was selected as a director to Southern Furniture Manufacturers Association from 1967 until 1970. Until his death he was serving in an advisory position on the board of the Liberty Security Bank. Mr. Martin was also a former member and president of the Board of Liberty Savings and Loan Association and of the Randolph County Board of Education, a former member of the Liberty School Advisory Board, former chairman and board member of First Union of Liberty, and former member and president of Liberty Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Dorothy J. Martin of Pittsboro. Also preceding in death were sisters, Hazel Dow and Thelma Frazier, and brothers, James Martin, Dewitt Martin, Garrett Martin, Coda Martin and Durwood Martin.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, JoAnn Martin; daughters, Ann Marie Martin of Greensboro, Janice Jackson and husband, Frank of Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughter, Wendy Klutz and husband, John of Wallburg; stepson, Jimmy Parker Jr. and wife, Crystal of Liberty; sister, Gladys Burch of Birmingham, Ala.; granddaughters, Jennifer Bloodworth and husband, Matt, Dorothy J. Taylor and husband, Michael; step granddaughters, Olivia Klutz, Katie Parker and Sydnie Parker; step grandsons, Jimmy Parker III and Hayden Parker; numerous nieces and nephews.

He loved life and enjoyed it fully. He was devoted to his family, his church, and his community. He will be remembered for his generosity to everyone he encountered in life. He will be missed tremendously.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9 at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Liberty Scholarship Fund or The James and Margaret Martin Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 4482, Liberty, N. C. 27298.

Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty is assisting the family.
