Pfc. Gil I. Morales Del Valle, 21, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Aug. 3 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La. Also killed was Pfc. Cody A. Baker. Pfc Morales Del Valle joined the Army in 2010 and had been deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom since October. During his time in the Army, he was awarded a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, the NATO Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Isai leaves his mother and stepfather, Gladys Del Valle and Renes Perez, Jacksonville, FL, his father, Gil E.
