Orville Kenneth, son of Cecil Thomas and Pearl Mae (McKnabb) Truitt was born on June 6, 1926 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Orville's family later moved to a farm near Dunlap, Iowa where he graduated from Dunlap High School in 1942. From 1943 to 1945, Orville served in the United States Army Air Corps as a tail gunner.

On July 9, 1947 Orville was united in marriage with Norma Dean Eggers at St. Rose of Lima Church in Denison. The couple had 9 children and they made their home in Denison for five years before moving to Carroll. Orville worked for Andrews Roofing for 15 years and retired from Farmland Foods after 16 years. Later, Orville went back to work in the transit department for Region XII in Carroll. There he received the Good Citizen Award and retired again after 12 years of service.

Orville was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Carroll American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards and serving as the family's handyman while fixing or tinkering with things around the house. Above all, Orville enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On July 20, 2011 Orville passed away at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He was 85 years, 1 month and 14 days of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law Jack Davidson and sister in law Betty Truitt.

Orville is survived by his wife of 64 years Norma Dean Truitt of Carroll; children: Robert Truitt and wife Sandra of Omaha, NE; Mary and husband Pat Clausen of Davenport; Donald Truitt and special friend Juanita of Kiron; Nadine Mathews of Carroll; Trenace and husband Donald Jensen of Atlantic; Rebecca and husband Ronnie Sparks of Parkville, MO; Barbara and husband William Linn of Lake City; Beth Ploeger of Independence, MO and Arthur Truitt and special friend Lori of Lake City; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers Earl Truitt of St. Paul, MN and Walter Truitt of Dow City; sister Eileen Davidson of Woodbine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
