Jamie Ethel White Dixon, 88, of Society Hill died January 6, 2008. Mrs. Dixon was born in Gaffney, SC.

She was the daughter of the late Junius and Emily Gardner White.

She attended Limestone College and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She taught school in the Chesterfield County School District for 36 years prior to her retirement.

She was a devoted member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church where she received the "Faithful Servant Award" for her years of service and devotion.

She taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class and was responsible for nicknaming her class "Heaven Bound" saying it was the last Sunday School Class you would attend before going to heaven!

Mrs. Dixon was a member of the church choir and was very active in many other aspects of church work to include Vacation Bible School, the Welsh Neck Rambler's, the Sue Wilson Circle, and the bereavement committee where she was affectingly known as the "Chicken Lady". She enjoyed reading her Bible and writing poetry

Surviving are her husband, Wiley Thomas Dixon of Society Hill; daughter, Nellie (Otis) Dixon Lawhon of Darlington; two grandsons, Thomas Luther Lawhon and Bryant Edward Lawhon; adopted grandson, Joseph Cope; several nieces and nephews and one special niece Emily (Robert) Lorick of Columbia; and special friend, Minnie L. Cope whom she referred to as her sister and her special caregivers, Ella and Dot Joyner, Mary Moses, and Betty Swann.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Bertha Lee White Jolly, Pearl Mae White Thomas, Inez White Doster, Augustus White, Edward Arron White, Junie White, Rosco White, Nell O'Bee White Harris Cudd, Myrtle Marie White Pierce, Mattie Willie White Slice, Lloyd T. White, Baby Boy White.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2008 in Welsh Neck Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
