Albert James Dreher Sr., son of Clemens and Kathryn (Schoenfeld) Dreher, was born Feb. 16, 1911 at Hays, KS. His death occurred on Aug. 14, 1987, n the St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, KS, after several months of failing health. His age was 76 years, 5 months, and 28 days.

Al, as most of his friends knew him, lived most of his life in the Gorham community. He received his basic education in the Gorham schools, and during WW II served his country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge from military duty, he returned to the Gorham area and on July 15, 1947, was united in marriage to Lucille Jacobs at Pfeifer, KS. This marriage was blessed with one son, Albert James Dreher, Jr.

His life was occupied with his work in the oil fields and his operation of a retail liquor store in Gorham. His activity over many years was through his involvement in securing oil leases and his management of the royalty over-rides with a number of oil companies.

His leisure activities were his love for his collection of Indian Artifacts and his coin collection. He would occupy many hours of his time researching these two activities.

Al was a long time member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gorham, transferring his membership to St. Mary's Church in Russell after moving to Russell in April 1985. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post No. 99, Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Dreher; and two sisters who died as children, Mathilda and Albertina Dreher.

Survivors are his wife, Lucille, of the home in Russell; son Albert J. Dreher Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Russell; and three grandchildren: Marcie Lynne, Jeffrey Owen, and Annette Marie Dreher. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerome Dreher of Scottsdale, AZ; and George Dreher of Gorham; one sister, Mrs. Keith (Isabel) Holder of Wichita, KS; several other relatives and a host of friends.

Service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gorham, KS - Aug. 17, 1987 - Interment in the church cemetery in Gorham.
