Mary Leona ABRAHAM (her mother wrote Leona's name as Mary LeOna in the family Bible) was the second child of nine children born to James Willard and Maud Evelyn (née SUMNER) ABRAHAM. She was born August 23, 1906 in Douglas County, Nebraska on the family ranch about five miles from the town of Valley. Her siblings were: Ila May, Ralph Sumner, James Howard, Margaret Elise, Alice Marie, Willard Earl, Catherine Jean, and Donna Lee.
During March 1916, when Leona was nine-years-old, the ABRAHAM family moved from Nebraska to Siloam Springs, Benton County, Arkansas. She became a member of the First Christian Church, attended Siloam Springs High School, and eventually became a nursing supervisor at the Siloam Springs Hospital.
Her first marriage was to Stacy Wendell ELLIOTT. Stacy was 22 and Leona was 19 when they married February 14, 1925. They moved to Roseville, Macomb County, Michigan where Stacy worked at Ford Motor Company as a Duco sprayer, and later, he became a line inspector. While living in Michigan, Stacy and Leona had two sons: Stacy Lee and Willard Eugene ELLIOTT. Stacy and Leona's marriage ended in divorce.
Leona was working in Siloam Springs, Arkansas at the hospital when she married Albert Layton Martin on July 26, 1931; Albert was 26 and Leona was 24. Albert was a barber in Siloam Springs. They eventually moved to California where he became an owner of a restaurant and gas station.
After living in California for a number of years, Albert and Leona moved back to the Midwest. They settled just west of Siloam Springs in Westville, Adair County, Oklahoma.
