Coy J. Allen, 86, of Herrick, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was born July 1, 1925 in Shelbyville, the son of James Thomas & Edna (Whitrock) Allen. Coy served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and lived most of his life in Decatur. He retired in 1980 from Staley's in Decatur after 36 years. Upon his retirement, he began farming, which he did up until a couple of years ago. Coy was a member of the Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee; National Rifle Association; and Grace Memorial Church, Edinburg. Coy was also registered with the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.
Coy J. Allen and Wandaleen Manley were united in marriage on January 18, 1948 in Niantic, IL. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2006.
He is survived by his children: Jerry Allen & wife Cheryl, Spring, TX ; Tom Allen & wife Charity, Marlboro, MA; and Wanda King & husband J.T., Boerne, TX; 3 grandchildren: Angela Marie Clark & husband Dr. Kelly Clark, Mt. Zion, IL; Jason Allen & wife Jennifer, North Liberty, IA; and Rhonda Lee Burke, New Carlisle, OH; 6 great grandchildren: Kolby, Kaden, Ashlyn, & Kameron Clark; and Shauna & Mason Burke; brother: Wayne "Pete" Allen & wife Francis, Oconee, IL; sister: Una Dunbar & husband Dean, Richmond, VA; and several nieces & nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marian, Geneva, Lois & Irene; and brothers: Carl, Joe, Alfred, Lester, & Keith.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 5, 2011 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ken Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Mound Cemetery with graveside military rites by Roy Ireland Post #317 American Legion, Oconee. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
