CHACON: Urbano B. Chacon, 89, of Glenwood passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, at Gila Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends today from 3-5 p.m. at Bright Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Bright Funeral Home by Deacon Johnnie Perez The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at San Ysidro Catholic Church in Gila with Father Marcos 0. Reyna officiating. Interment will be in the Maldonado Cemetery in Gila. Mr. Chacon was born May 25, 1909, in Metcalf, Ariz., the son of Bernardo Chacon and Paulita Barriga Chacon. He was married to Pascuala Maldonado in April 1934. He is survived by one son, Bernardo M. Chacon of Silver City, and Delia Cordero; three daughters, Maria M. Chacon of Los Lunas, Irene C. Alvarado and her husband, Robert, of Silver City, and Magdalena C. Kirker and her husband, John, of Santa Clara; one sister, Anita C. Maldonado of Silver City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand-j child; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, in 1989; and two brothers, Alfonso Chacon and Hilario Chacon. Mr. Chacon attended schools in Mogollon. He worked many years as an underground miner in the Mogollon mines. He was one of the last surviving miners of that era of underground mining in. that area. Mr. Chacon also worked in the lead and zinc mines around Grant County After his retirement, he moved to Glenwood, where he spent most of his time in vegetable gardening. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and visiting with his many friends in the Glenwood community. Mr. Chacon spent the last years of his life after his health started to fail with his children in Silver City and Los Lunas. Pallbearers for Mr. Chacon's services will be Ernest Ma!ldonado, Dr. Gilbert Cordero, Ralph Cardoza, Robert Alvarado, John Kirker and Nelson Romero. Honorary bearers will be Ruben Chacon, Rudy Garcia, William Luera, Bucky Aidred, Joe Rodriquez, Gujilermo Maldonado, Bobby Quintana, Steven Wilson, Anthony Velarde, Angel Telles and Toby Perez. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
