Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Frieden's Reformed United Church of Christ, Tripp, with the Rev. Henry Roemer officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Willis Hoff, Delray Herr, Larry Thury, Lowell Winckler, Wayne Winckler and Jarvis Winckler. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. today (Wednesday) with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Goglin-Kelley Memorial Chapel, Tripp.
Erwin was born Oct. 14, 1913, at Tripp to Henry and Lydia (Guthmiller) Hoff Jr. He married Rebecca Winckler April 24, 1937, in Tripp. They farmed seven miles southwest of Tripp for many years until moving to Tripp in 1968. He served as policeman in Tripp for 10 years, and also was policeman for dances at the fairgrounds. He sold United Hagie seed corn for many years. His wife died Nov. 22, 2003.
After he retired in town, his pride and joy was his garden and how much he could give his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons: Harlan (Maedora) Hoff, Canton; and Jerome (Rita) Hoff, Menno; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Sam Hoff, Mitchell; Norman Hoff, St. Louis; and Helmuth Hoff, Lodi, Calif.; and one sister, Edna Heisinger, Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
