Gertrude Eva (Mather) Vincent

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 25 from the Yuma United Methodist Church for Gertrude Eva Vincent of Yuma. The Rev. Jon Nieves officiated the services. Interment followed in the Yuma Cemetery.

Mrs. Vincent passed away August 22 at the Yuma Life Care Center at the age of 89.

Gertrude Eva Vincent was born September 6, 1891 to Delmar C. Mather and Ella Mae Mather in Herndon, Kansas. She was one of 10 children, of whom one, Mildred Manning of Denver, survives.

She married Floyd Hacker in 1915 and to this union were born two children, John D. Hacker, deceased, and Floy D. Northway of Ramona, California.

Gertrude's first husband died in the flu epidemic of 1918.

On November 26, 1924 she married James O. Vincent in Atwood, Kansas. Two children were born to this marriage, James H. Vincent of Yuma and Carol Beth Givens of Lilburn, Georgia.

Mrs. Vincent was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and upon moving to Yuma with her husband in 1937 she began service to her church as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, worker, and secretary of the church board for many years.

Gertrude served the Yuma Library Board and was active in Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors, and Senior Women's Club. She was once elected "Mother of the Year for the community of Yuma.

Gertrude was a loving wife to husband, Jim, working in the office of the plumbing shop until she and Jim retired.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Jim, and son, J.D.

Survivors are her daughters, Floy Northway and husband, Dura, and Carol Givens and husband, Herb; her son,, Jim and wife, Mildred; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren
