U.S. Congressman. Successful in business as a hardware merchant, he was Mayor of Port Huron, Michigan, (1881-82). In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1887. After leaving Congress, he returned to his former mercantile pursuits until his death at age 72.
