Charles was the son of Matthew Bennett of "Brooks Farm", Northiam, Sussex England. Charles was a Blacksmith. He named Judah Tucker Bennett of Brooks Farm as his beneficiary.

Enlisted as a Private, Service number 2147391 in the Fort Garry Horse, Canadian Expeditionary Force at Camp Hughes on 16 Jun 1916. He served in France and was discharged from the service by reason of demobilization on 1 Apr 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
