John A. Paris, 88, of Ely died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at his daughter's home.
He was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Ely to Andrea and Ersilia Bianchi Paris. John attended Ely Memorial High School. On Sept. 12, 1940, he was married to Mary Ann Shuster in Ely. John worked in the Sibley and Pioneer mines for many years and later was a truck driver for St. Louis County. John loved his home on Farm Lake and enjoyed many hours of fishing in both the winter and summer. John was a member of St. AnthonyÕs Catholic Church. He was a founding member of The Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club and enjoyed being a member right up to the time of his death. John was a wonderful father, father-in-law, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann (Gordon) Smith of Ely; grandson, John C. Smith of Duluth; brother, Andrew (Mary Lou) Paris of Aurora; and sisters, Charlotte Pechek of Ely and Natalie (James) DeGuisti of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Mary; infant son, John Paul; and sisters, Mary Cecelia and Columbia.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Ely Cemetery. Father James Scheuer officiated. Family services provided by Kerntz Brothers, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Ely.
