COLEEN ANDERSON:
"Coleen Olive Anderson was the third of six children born to Fred and JosIe (Davis) Myers on June 26, 1919. She passed away of natural causes on May 30, 2002, at Yuma Life Care Center. She was 82.
"Coleen was born and raised a few miles south of Yuma and attended country grade school there during the Depression. Coleen later wrote and published a book about this unique time titled, "Riches From The Poor Farm."
"Coleen and her future husband, Ernie, met and started dating at Yuma High school She graduated in 1937, then attended Colorado State Teacher's College for two years. She later got her degree there in 1959.
"After both taught school for a year in and near Joes, Coleen and Ernie were married June 29, 1941. To this union two children were born: Beverly Kay and Robert Dean.
" When Beverly turned 5, Coleen held private Kindergarten in her home. The cost was $1 for three days a week.
"Coleen started teaching Kindergarten at the Yuma School in 1956. Including her school years in Eckley and near Joes, Coleen taught for a total of 33 years. She later wrote and published a book about these rewarding experiences title, "My Mother Made Me Bring You This Apple...I Don't Know Why."
"Coleen was a member of Eastern Star for 50 years .... She was a charter Yuma Lioness member ....... She served on the Yuma Library board and on the advisory board of the Yuma County Social Services Committee. She faithfully attended the Yuma Presbyterian church and served as Deacon and Elder.
"Throughout her life, Coleen always enjoyed her membership in Woman's Club; writing and publishing numerous stories and poems; and working on her beautiful craft projects. She felt blessed to share summer vacations with her family and had wonderful memories of trips to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska with Ernie, family and friends.
Coleen's valuable gifts of teaching, kindness and lending a helping hand will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
"Preceding her in death are her father and mother, Fred and Josie Myers; and brother Verlin (Dick) Myers.
Coleen is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Ernest Anderson of Yuma;' her brothers, Lyle Myers of LaSalle; Bill Myers and wife Mabeth of Valley, Alabama; Bob Myers and wife Ann of Boise, Idaho; and Howard Myers and wife Joyce of Fort Collins; her daughter Beverly and husband Richard Hickman of Seabrook, Texas, their son Nathan of Austin, Texas, and their daughter Megan and husband Chris of Sugarland, Texas; her son Robert and wife Lori of Boulder, as well as numerous other loving relatives and friends.
"Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 5, at the First Presbyterian Church of Yuma, with Pastor James Webb officiating. Services were directed by Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma."...Yuma Pioneer, June 6, 2002
