PANHANDLE — Karen Lee Todd Smith, 64, went to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011.

Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Arena of Life Cowboy Church with the Revs. Luann Jones, Buzz Busby and John Shattuck, pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Karen was born Oct. 12, 1946, in Santa Rita, N.M., to Charles and MaryBell Todd. She graduated in 1965 from Panhandle High School.

She married Doug Smith on Oct. 8, 1965. They shared a wonderful life together. Karen lived in Panhandle most of her life. They raised three children in Panhandle and led an active life.

She was a band booster, FFA and industrial arts supporter. She enjoyed cake decorating and interior design. She was a member of the Antigone Club, Daughters of the Confederacy and the 55 Plus Club.

She touched many lives while supporting her husband, "Pokey" the Clown. They worked with many charities and enjoyed giving back to the community.

Karen enjoyed weekend adventures with the Ya Ya Sisters, many of which she went to school with. She was a prayer warrior and a woman of faith. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

Survivors include her loving husband, Doug "Pokey" Smith; a daughter, Stacy and husband Rosendo Esquibel of Lubbock; two sons, Jeff Smith and wife Sue of Amarillo and Steven Smith and wife Jill of Southlake; a sister, Sharon Carter and family of Amarillo; a brother, Eddie Todd and family of Lawton, Okla. Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren who brought much joy to her life, Hagen, Blake, Allanah, Blaine, Lizzy and Daniel; and much extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be to March of Dimes, 104 S.W. Sixth Ave., No. 301, Amarillo, TX 79101-2325; The Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or WRCA Crisis Scholarship Fund.
