Francis P. "Bud" Dawson, 3610 8th Ave S., No. 102, Escanaba, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home surrounded by loving family and friends following a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer and congested heart failure.
Bud was born on June 4, 1938, in Hermansville, the son of Frank O. and Catherine H. (Kluba) Dawson.
On July 11, 1959, he married DeWilla C. Fleury in Cornell.
For 34 years, Bud worked as a mechanic. He worked at Ed Hengesh Service Station and also owned and operated Bud's Service Station. He was then employed at EMP for 12 years, retiring in November of 2002.
Family time was very special to Bud and always came first in his life, and also the great friendships he inquired through his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting at camp with son, Edward; brother in laws, Eddie and Kenny Fleury; cousin, Louie Myers and a special friend, who was very much like a son, Kevin Martin. He enjoyed bowling and a lifetime interest in cars. Bud always had a "helping hand" for anyone that needed it.
He is survived by his wife, DeWilla of Escanaba; daughter, Terrie (Terry) Belongie of Gladstone; two sons, Gary Dawson of Escanaba and Edward (Renae) Dawson of Rapid River; three sisters, Catherine of Michigan, Patricia and Joan of Escanaba; two brothers, Clifford and Thomas of Escanaba; two grandsons, Jeremy (Dawn) Belongie and Brian Belongie; three great-grandchildren, Kassidy, Devin, and Chace; and two special friends, Kevin Martin of Grand Rapids and Jim Royer of Escanaba.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mae, Eleanor, and June; two brothers, Paul and Kenneth; and a very special friend, Francis "Pete" Buckley.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 1, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Doug Fleury officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Dawson family with arrangements.
