Funeral services were heeld from the St. Mmary's Catholic Church Saturday morning at 9 0'clock for Mrs. Jacob Johannes, Sr. nee Clara Ludwig who passed away last Wednesday night after an extended illness. She had been confined to her home for the paswt seventeen years. Recently she had the misfortune of breaking her arm, resulting in complications which hastened her death.
Mrs. Jacob Johannes was born January 3, 1855 at Brighton,Wisconsin. February 29, 1876 at the age of 21, she was married to Jacob Johannes. Shortly after the marriage they came west and homesteaded 3 1/2 mkiles northwest of Ashton where they made their home for many years. Soon due to the health of her husband, they moved to town and resided in the north edge of town where Mrs. Johannes has resided for the past 43 years. To this union was born 12 children, three of which died in infancy.
Mr. Johannes, her husband preceeded her in death by six years, passing away in 1932.
Mrs. Johannes, in spite of the fact that she was confined for the past seventeen years, was always cheerful and a friendly neighbor, and will be mourned by all who knew her.
She leaves to mourn her passing, nine children; Mrs. S. May, Peter Johannes, Mrs. Chas. Tremmel, Mrs. John Strouth, Mrs.; B.J. Arning, William Johannes, mrs. L.C. Seivert, Helen Johannes all of Ashton, and Nic Johannes of St. Paul, Minn. She also leaves 45 grandchildren, three sisters, 3 step-brothers and 5 step-sisters.
Six grandchildren acted as pall-bearers: Leo Tremmel, Joseph Arning, Mike Strouth, Jake Strouth and Matt Johannes.
