Mary Anker Bendel was born between on the 14 day of May, 1819 in Weilersbach, Bavaria to Moses and Sprinz Schmitt Anker . She had several siblings : Louise, Loeb (Louis), Gütel, Bienlein, Babet (Barbara), Edel, Beila, Fanny,Jette, and Joseph. The three siblings which are known to me are as follows: Joseph Anker married Matilda Holzer, Louis Anker who married Bertha Bendel. Jette Anker remained in Bavaria and had four children that I am aware of. Mary married Henry Bendel and had nine children: Edward Henry, Joseph, Sarah, Thomas Isaac (Born Isaac Thomas), Max(listed as Mary on the 1860 census), and Susan. All the children were born in Albany County, New York.
Mary lived with Henry and their children in the town of Bethlehem in Albany County, New York during the 1850 and 1860 censuses.
Henry passed away on 13 Aug 1865 and is buried in the new Beth Emeth Cemetery. Mary is found living with her daughter, Sarah Aaron, on the 1870 census in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. In 1875 she was listed in a city directory for Lexington, Kentucky.
On the 1880 census, Mary was living with her son, Joseph, in Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County, Kentucky. Her daughter Susan was also living with them. This is the last census that Mary was found on. She was found in the Lexington City directory shortly after that.
She died on the 4th of October 1886 in Richmond, Mason, Kentucky. I found Mary Bendel buried in the Jewish section of Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky in S:E1 L: 23 Gr: 21.
