George A. Shepherd
G. A. Shepherd died at his home in the Evans Chapel community last Friday. He had been troubled with a serious heart affection for quite a time, but it was not thought to be dangerous. Friday morning he went out to the field to start the men to work. A little later he sat down in the shade, and seemed to be suffering. One of the darkies came up to ask him if he was in pain, and if he could do anything for him. He noticed an unusual look on Mr. Shepherd's face and ran to get help. A minute or so later when he returned he was dead.
He was buried Saturday afternoon in the Evans Chapel Cemetery, Rev. J. B. Davis of Centerville and Rev. H. M. Lewis of Jewett conducting the services. The funeral arrangements was in the charge of Hollis Undertaking Co. of Madisonville. A large crowd gathered to pay the last tribute to one of the best men of the country.
